Now that the world is going digital, everything moves. Everything is HD. In a very rare encounter, Blackberry might be seen among the crowd in the tube, but never were the Nokia or the flip phones. Living in a society where we see the impossible all the time, we urge to go back in time, bringing back the analogue way of seeing to juxtapose how we live our lives everyday.

One of which is film camera. I think I’ve mentioned this in previous posts about getting to see the photos immediately after the shots were taken on DSLR verses building up the thrill while waiting for the film rolls to be processed and bringing forgotten memory back. When I used Iiford ISO 400 for the first time in Paris, I realized how high exposed film gave a lot of grainy texture to the photo. With all the high definition screen nowadays, I find it difficult to be comfortable with highly textured images. Having one roll of Ilford left, I thought I could capture the nostalgia feel to the modern London architecture specifically of the Tate Modern new building that was on my to-visit lists.

I've been fascinated by London since the first time I visited in 2013. The forever growing city like London is a perfect example of the blending between the old and the new. Amongst the skyrockets spreading throughout the panoramic view, historical landmark like Big Ben and Tower Bridge standing iconically along with Norman Fosters’ buildings. The glimpse of Greco Roman architecture with the organic shape architecture, merging history with present, is what London is all about.

Despite the long queue in front of the Saatchi Gallery, Chanel Mademoiselle Prive exhibition didn't impress me like the Louis Vuitton exhibition at the Strand back in October. I'd say the overall experience was somewhat similar to the LV, but with more separated sections. There were also workshops like embroidery available for anybody who booked the seats in the Mademoiselle application in prior. Unfortunately, everything was booked out so quickly, I didn't have a chance to try them out.

What was unique about this exhibition was its application for smartphone. A Mademoiselle application designed to create an interaction between the exhibited surrounding/object and the audience. I didn't get a change to screenshot my iPhone screen because I was overly excited about the feature of this application. Basically, it required a wifi for location service to mark where we were at the exact location of the gallery so that the app could display a certain screen to us. For example, I saw Coco Chanel through the opening door in my screen instead of just a painting of door in the below photo.

I'd say the overall experience was so-so, there was nothing I learned more from the brand except from the joy of getting freebies of a tote bag and an exhibition poster home. The part I enjoyed the most was probably the couture section, where patches from different couture collections were put into frames allowing the audience to see the amount of work behind each of the garment. It made me think that perhaps fashion is art too, somehow. Nevertheless, having to wait in the winter cold was not something I wish to do again in the future.

Color Me In

Spending an hour in the afternoon with my friends being fantasized by Serpentine Pavilion 2015 designed by Selgascano, was a lot of fun. Seeing a lot of photos from my Instagram feed on this particular location, I made myself a mental note of to-do list that I needed to come here and take picture here for the blog and for the eyes as well.

My friend and I basically spent most of our time walking around posing for each other. It was quite embarrassed when you were trying to pose cooly and naturally for the camera, you looked like an idiot flipping your hair around by the eyes of other people. But anyhow, I eventually went to the state of 'I don't care anymore' and just got going.

This pavilion is going to be up until October 18th. If you happen to live near Hyde Park or trying to find a place to visit or relax, I really recommend Serpentine Galleries. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the current exhibition by Jimmie Durham, which is inside the gallery itself. I just don't see myself relating to his way of communicating, but it would be a shame to miss the pavilion on a hopefully sunny day here in London.

But first, Afternoon Tea

During Easter Break, it took me awhile to figure out where to bring my family to when they were about to visit me in London, but nothing can be more English than a cup of earl grey tea and an afternoon tea. We also went to Sky Garden on top of the 20 Fenchurch Street building. It was relatively small but the view was amazing.
